WHAD (We Have A Dream) Project: Youth Justice Worker


WHO WE ARE

The WHAD (We Have A Dream) Project was established in **Apply on the
website** with the singular goal of reducing re-offending rates of
at-risk young men from the Cherry Orchard/ Ballyfermot area. WHAD
Project is a registered charity. The project works with groups and
individual participants referred through the Probation Service (YPP)
and local community agencies (schools, GYDP, local youth projects,
etc…) who identified the young men as at-risk of offending
behaviour.

OUR PURPOSE

* To reduce the re-offending rate of young people aged **Apply on
the website** years in the Cherry Orchard/Ballyfermot area of Dublin
who are classified as being at risk.
* To enable young people at risk to exert more control over their
personal and social behaviour.
* To encourage each participant to secure power and control over
resources made available for them to respond positively.
* To facilitate the confrontation of the behaviour of each
participant to enable them to take responsibility for his/her
behaviour.
* To involve the local community in a community response to the
behaviour and occupation of its young people.
* To use outdoor adventure education as a means of engagement with
participants
* Educate participants in outdoor skills while exposing them to a
variety of new environments and experiences.
* With the Gaisce Awards Scheme as a guide the participants have an
opportunity to expand their horizons and see future potential beyond
their own peers and communities.

AVAILABLE POST

Youth Justice Worker ( * hrs/week) initial 1
Year contract which will be subject to application for extension.
Salary € *k- *k

This is a great opportunity for any youth justice worker to be part of
an expanding youth project and be part of the development and
implementation of new programmes.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

* An NSETS recognised professionally endorsed qualification in Youth
Work or Youth and Community Work or Education to Degree standard
preferably in the area of Youth/ Justice/ Social / Community Work
(candidates with exceptional, relevant work experience may also be
considered in lieu of degree qualifications)
* Min 2 years’ experience in a Probation CBO, YDP or similar Youth
Work role.
* Full clean drivers’ licence (minibus licence an advantage)

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with young
people in our target groups.
* Good interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide
range of contacts and build and maintain effective working
relationships.
* Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively
within a pressurised environment.
* Positive and flexible approach to working as part of a team.
* Excellent written communications skills, including report writing
and the ability to draft summary information and correspondence.
* An integral part of our engagement with participants is through
outdoor activities, therefore experience or a strong willingness to
engage in outdoor activities will be vital for any candidate.
